What is involved in a typical Yoga Class in Farnham?

I teach the only way I know how, from the heart! The classes are true to the traditions of Yoga and complete in their approach to creating a healthy body and mind. A typical class includes:

  • Breathing and relaxation;
  • Warming and opening postures;
  • Breath-Synchronized-Dynamic Movement;
  • Asana (Steady Posture - Forward/Backward/Side Bend, Spinal Twist, Inversion, Balance, Strength);
  • Final guided relaxation;
  • and ........... Good fun!

Words fail to convey the total value of Yoga. It has to be experienced.

The Yoga classes are suitable for all levels and complete beginners are encouraged to give it a go! My classes are true to the traditions of Hatha Yoga and are structured to provide the practitioner with the maximum of benefit from a weekly 90 minute Class. The class gives equal thought and attention to all the systems of the human body. On a physical level we pay attention to all the joints, muscles, organs, glands, and nerves. We also stimulate the digestive, respiratory, cardio vascular, endocrine, reproductive, lymphatic and immune system. We do this by working both physically and energetically. Eastern forms of exercise, including Yoga, recognise 72,000 energy points (nadis) within the human body. The seven main points being the Chakras which are situated from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head. These energy points are closely connected to the nervous system and influence each and every aspect of our being. Our health, emotionally, energetically and physically is dependent on the free flow of energy. Yoga postures are designed to target these energy points, releasing blockages. This is what contributes to that feeling of bliss after a Yoga session. It's a complete health check!

Hatha Yoga differs both physically and philosophically from the vast majority of
other forms of exercise, particularly in the West. Hatha Yoga operates on a total approach to health and fitness, and a broader understanding of strength, beyond just physical power. Hatha Yoga is not just a momentary result; it's an intelligent and gentle, calm yet challenging, and gradual process by which we arrive at 'lasting' health and well being.

Swami Nikhilananda wrote: "The result of Hatha Yoga is simply to make the Yogi live a long healthy life- that's it! A total approach to health is the chief idea, the one goal of Hatha Yoga. The Yogi is determined not to fall sick…. And he never does. A hundred years is nothing for him; he remains young and fresh well into old age."

If practised regularly Yoga 'will' add years to your life and as you get older, you will take on an ageless appearance.

Why is this?

The Yogis took thousands of years to develop a form of exercise that addresses each and every aspect of your being. A regular Hatha Yoga practise will develop a fine physique, which is strong and elastic, without being muscle bound – this is without question. However its real beauty is that it gives equal thought and attention to all the systems of the human body and mind, including:

Muscular System
Skeletal System
Cardiovascular Syestem (circulation)
Respiratory System (breathing)
Digestive System
Nervous System
Reproductive System
Immune System
Endocrine System (hormones)
Lymphatic System (drainage of impurities)
Integumentary System (skin)
Excretory System
